Ah, it’s Fall, and time to get back to the grind. There couldn’t possibly be a better time to get the lowdown on all the happenings at co+Lab. If you don’t already know, co+Lab Buzz is a regular column that features news on members of our coworking space.

“After only a short month from starting up my Visual Effects business in Kelowna I’ve met some people that are involved with OSIF (Okanagan Society of Independent Filmmaking) and are looking at doing more local vfx work! After finishing up some mad-dash smaller projects I got a call out to do some on-set vfx supervision down in Vancouver on a TV show. So much for those baby steps in starting a business. It appears I’ve taken a baby step into an escalator full of the big dogs.
I couldn’t have imagined that this would have taken off so quickly!”

“I’ve recently accepted a contract position with Okanagan Changemakers as their ChangeUP 2015 Event Coordinator. ChangeUP is the second audience-voting pitch competition (much like a social Dragon’s Den) which takes place December 3rd at the Kelowna Community Theatre. This year, we are pleased to have entrepreneur Mickey McLeod as our keynote speaker. Mickey is the co-founder, president and CEO of Salt Spring Coffee. We’re currently looking for pitch applicants (deadline Nov 1st, 2015). If you or any you know is interested in taking the main stage, check out the eligibility criteria here. Tickets are on sale now — hope to see you guys out!”

“I made it, guys! I guess I must have snuck through the ultra-rigorous 3-month probationary period at co+Lab, because I’m still here, happily learning all about coworking life with all the other talented solopreneurs, digital nomads, and teams here. Just kidding, I don’t think there’s a probation period. …or is there? Buhahahahahahaahahahahahaha…..”
“While I may not be doing anything as exciting as having a baby (looks around the room suspiciously), I did take the giant plunge into grown-up waters by incorporating my little consulting business. One small step for others, one gigantic step for me… Now I’m working on a business plan to support some original stories and IP I’ve been nurturing in my (somewhat limited) spare time – one of which is an app based on one of my daughter’s fun character designs. I’ll share a sneak peek once I have some i’s and lowercase j’s dotted.”

“I just got back from a bit of a Practice Ignition Road trip. First stop was Vancouver where I hosted an event in conjunction with Xero and a bunch of accounting app add-ons. Next stop was Niagara falls for a bookkeepers conference. I was lucky enough to be invited by Intuit to sit in on a panel discussing the role of technology in accounting.”
